RE: Where's the new Coleman Camper website?

The site is up, BUT if it is indeed the 2009 line up there's no Switchback.

RE: Done with Coleman

Fleetwood and I assume the company now owning the folding trailer division have had a flat no self delivery or DIY installation policy for as long as I can remember. All deliveries are scheduled from the factory and a dealer must recieve and install the roof. As for timing I have to agree now isn't the best with the new company just taking over and the slump and layoffs in the industry; delivery on your replacement roof may take several months.

RE: What item can't you seem to get right?

The peach pie I made yesterday and prompted my post was thick at the filling but my bottom crust was raw gooe. I started 15 - 20 minutes at 425 and then reduced to 350 for the remainder. They had a special last night on the food network on Thanksgiving and a feature on apple pie. Which clicked my memory was that they put the pie on the bottom of the oven to start it so the bottom crust would cook faster. Then moved it up to a rack to finish. I'm sure you can find the segment on the food network website or as you know it'll be repeated over and over again...LOL

RE: I do not know if i can go camping after my wife passed away

Ted, I've been in your shoes. I lost the love of my life 4 years ago when she was only 50. It may be a cliché but "time help to heal" is actually true. The painful memories slowing turn into pleasant recollections when doing things that remind you of her. Not to say they pain goes away, but it will get less. It was two years before I could face camping again without her.

RE: looking for an apple crisp recipe

The long slow cooling works for the filling as well if you are using fresh apples and not the can pie filling. Last night on the Food network they did a thankgiving show which had a feature on cooking regular apple pies, but almost everything applied to apple crisp/dutch apple pie as well.

RE: Where's the new Coleman Camper website?

If they are using the same IT people they have used for years A "no show" on the new site doesn't surprise me at all. For several years we got announcements the new year site would be up in Sept-Oct and some years it was late Feb before they got it up and running. In fact when the lawsuit injunction prohibiting Fleetwood from using the Coleman name they ended up back in court to get Fleetwood to change the site or close it because the IT people were "having trouble" deleting the Coleman name, logo's, and PDF's containing the Coleman operators manuals and other literature.

RE: Gas prices cash/credit or debit card

IIRC The federal regulation that prohibited the difference between cash and credit/debit cards expired. So it's on a state by state basis as to whether or not there can be different pricing. NYS does not allow different pricing, but then we have about the highest state taxes on gasoline and diesel that we're almost always above the national average. Mike, Almost every gas station on LI has different pricing for cash or credit. Most have a $.06 difference. Our Costco/American Express card gives us back 3% which was up to $.12/gal. and now is down to around $.07. Ed Must be a county by county thing then. All the neighboring counties around Onondaga (Syracuse) are also same price for cash or credit. Here the "trick" is any station with a car wash showing the "with wash" price in hugh numbers and the "with wash" and "regular price" in fine print...LOL What we do see is anyone living anywhere close to the PA line heading over the border for about a $.15 a gallon price saving in PA. Prices around here range from a Low of $2.12 to $2.45 on stations less than 4 miles apart.

RE: Dry Camping in 20 degree weather

Since you mentioned tailgating in a parking lot, will you have any electrical hookup? If not then battery power becomes a REAL issue. A single battery will usally make it one night using interior lights and furnace. Two nights are iffy, and three are pretty much assured to waking up with no lights and no furnace.

RE: looking for an apple crisp recipe

The above recipe works with pie filling and just uses the crumble on top. And I agree coconut is best left for cake covering and oats for horse feed...LOL

RE: Edenpure Quartz infrared portable heater

Like the others posted it doesn't produce any more or "better" heat than any other electric heater. It just has a larger case and that's a lot to pay for the difference of hundreds of dollars. A a couple of tips for using electric heaters on 30 amp services. Since most 30 amp services have only two breakers, a 20 amp usually dedicated to an air conditioner, and a 15 amp that supplies everything else. If you have a 20 amp outlet that the AC plugged into you can use that (or add on if the AC is wired direct) and not lose any of the 15 amp breaker. We've also run heavy duty extension cords into the camper from the 20 amp outlet on the shore power so we don't use any of the 30 amp. This allows us to use a second heater on the 20 amp and still leave the 15 amp available for other things.

RE: How to fix Shower Surround?

For the odd cracks, seams, and blisters we've used the perenial favorite of EtrnaBond tape. It does show up but as long as the surface is clean when you put it on it is a permanent repair. The vibration and stress an RV puts on shower floors and surrounds can be pretty brutal.

RE: LP Regulator Freezing

While we've only seen it in Extreme sourthern California, Mexico, and in southern Texas, Sorthern Florida may well use a propane/butane mix. The problem is while propane has a vapor temperature of -40 degees F, butane has a 32 degree F temperature where it vaporizes. But I'll go with you ended up with water in the tank. In either case since it's a permanent mounted tank you need to get the services of a good propane supplier.

RE: Egg Shell on PUP mattresses?

It really depends on the exact make/model/year. I've had PU's a swear I couldn't close the roof if I left a sheet on the mattress and others I could swing a cat over once they were closed. The old trick to see how much room you have is to place an empty tissue box on the mattress and close the roof. After opening it the box will show you how much actual room you have.

As a history note, the owner of Jayco started his career as a Starcraft employee. He left to form his own company, Jayco which bought up his former employer.

RE: 2400 watt = ? amps

I take it you have the Homesite Power 2400 model It is actually a 2000 watt genset with a 2000/2200 watt (16.6/18.3 amp) continuous/surge ratting.

RE: Donate your RV to charity.

Not trolling it's a very common idea. The National Kidney Foundation, Hospice, at least a dozen cancer research centers, and even National Public Radio, among others use the vehicle donation program to raise money. BUT, the rules have changed. No longer can you just take the blue book value as your tax deduction. You take what the charity end up getting. If the vehicle is a year old Cadillac with a blue book value of $35,000, but was wrecked; 5 years ago you could take the $35,000 blue book value. Now you'd get whatever the charity got for the scrapped value as your deduction.

RE: Done with Coleman

Thanks Tim for the correction I was doing it from my slightly senile memory. As for the of the replacement roofs not fitting on older campers, again they've done a few design changes with out checking back wards compatibility. So this is and will be a continuing issue until they decide to put some engineering on to the issue.

RE: Done with Coleman

Here's the actual history on th ABS roof warranty. In 1996 the first year the roofs had a true 100% total warranty to the original owner. This still holds true. If you are the original owner you will not be charged shipping for a replacement roof. 1997 to 2001 The warranty was changed to a limited lifetime warranty for the original owner, with shipping charged after the first 5 years. In 2001 through 2003.5 the outside company Fleetwood conned into producing the roofs, had an "unwritten warranty" policy that they reimbursed Fleetwood and the customer for any costs above Fleetwood's' warranty. So they paid Fleetwood for shipping, and even gave the original no cost roof and customer paid shipping to a second owner. This unwritten warranty disappeared as soon as the outside company went bankrupt as Fleetwood would not pick up the costs of shipping or the roof for a second owner. Currently the roof warranty is 5 year replacement warranty with shipping charged after year one to only the original owner. Any replacement roof installed now get the NEW 5 year warranty no matter what the original warranty was. The roof must be shipped to and installed by an authorized Fleetwood/Coleman dealer. No DIY installations. Shipping cost may look high, but we have verified them many times over the years with other LTL shippers. If a roof is shipped on a load of trailers it takes the place of a trailer. It can't be piggy backed on a trailer in the load. So shipping all by itself on an LTL load or as a part of a trailer load costs about the same. Currently that would be apx $500 for the closest dealership to the Summerset, PA factory; up to $1400-$1500 for a west cost dealership.
